what is financial empowerment

Financial empowerment is more than managing money - it’s about securing futures, protecting dreams, and facing life’s uncertainties with confidence.

It is the ability to manage one’s financial resources confidently, making informed decisions about spending, saving, and investing.

It's about gaining control over one's financial situation, leading to improved financial stability and well-being.

the gap we are trying to bridge

Research shows that the difference in financial literacy between men and women is not very high (<5%). However, there is large gap in financial decision-making ability between men and women.

Indeed, many women today handle household budgets but do not feel confident to participate in the family’s financial decision making. They remain unprepared for unexpected financial events.

Lack of access to organised financial information keeps women vulnerable - even in otherwise secure families.

Financial dependency can trap women in cycles of uncertainty and helplessness.

samarthlakshmi's mission

We bridge this critical gap - by making women not just participants, but leaders in their own financial journeys.

At Samarth Lakshmi, we believe true financial empowerment comes from readiness, not just knowledge.

Actions speak louder than words - we go beyond spreading awareness, our approach consists of actionable steps, direct impact and implementation.

We help them organise and protect their financial lives, educate them about various government schemes and facilitate enrolment- ensuring independence, security, and peace of mind for today and tomorrow.

Be Financially Ready for Every Chapter of Life

ABOUT US

A few personal experiences sowed the seeds of this idea in the mind of our founder, Navya Agarwal. She saw up close in her family how helpless a woman feels financially on the loss of her husband, despite having a reasonable safety net. While women are usually adept at managing their household budgets, they shy away from taking the leap towards financial management. Her interactions with multiple people over the course of her project MoneySatark and other primary and secondary research made her realise that there are multiple challenges to women’s financial empowerment.

  • Social Taboo - Money discussions are avoided in homes, limiting awareness and informed decision-making.

  • Fear of numbers and technical jargons - Finance is perceived as a math heavy subject involving difficult terms which women tend to fear and avoid.

  • Patriarchal society -Women are not involved in household financial decisions because of lack of awareness & confidence in their own ability.

She set out to work with women in her nearby communities. Word of mouth helped enhance the reach across other communities while maintaining the depth of the initiative. SamarthLakshmi was expanded across various states by the help of our able volunteers - SamarthSakhis (empowered friends).  SamarthSakhis are local ambassadors fully equipped to independently spread the message and key learnings using our innovative workshops and multi-lingual resources.
